At about age three, I remember the row of outside toilets at the back across the cobbled yard….

I was probably about 11 years old when I found Olly, which would make it around 1958.

I knew that most owls were nocturnal, but I had to be careful.

He has been really quiet, hasn’t been eating normally and definitely not allowing me to pick him up.

I think it was early one Saturday or Sunday morning when the police turned up.

On this fateful day I put Olly in his box to go over to the fields for a bit of exercise.

We don’t know how long ago it was, when the forests that covered most of Yorkshire, a settlement was formed upon the hill, that is now Yeadon.

The Priory was sheltered to the north by Esholt Woods and Hollings Hill, which in those days was covered with holly trees and evergreens.
