Visited this grave recently whilst searching for my grandparents family grave. It is quite impressive wish there was more inscribed about his accomplishments locally. Both my grandparents Long/Towers were born and lived in Yeadon, grew up next door to each other on Football Yeadon, married at the Methodist Chapel they both worked as weavers at Billy Murgatroyd’s Mill (referred to locally as “Murgs”), when I finally located their resting place which is unmarked, I feel they would have been happy to know they were resting almost in the shadow of their former employers monument!

I used to play in the field this is painted from in the late 60’s and early 70’s as a young boy. The house is as I remember and the brick building on the near left was a small shed which had a rack filled with oil drums inside. It was about 12 feet square, with a corrugated roof. Does anybody know what it’s purpose was?
I remember that at one time the shed had loads of ‘Otley and Ilkley Times’ newspapers in it, dumped by paperboys avoiding having to deliver the free paper.
