Comment | An exterior view of the shop which initially was in the lower section of Morrisons store on the High Street (later became a caf’e bar), the business was then moved to premises which had been Morrisons wines and spirits outlet (now the Post Office. July 2013) Pauline and Brian Firth were joint owners of the dress shop, in the interior view Eileen Triffitt (Brian’s sister) is on the left, Pauline Firth on the right. Five years later the business changed, Pauline closed the shop at 5pm on a Friday, at 6am on the following day it re-opened as a newsagents. The whole family had worked overnight to strip out dress rails stock and shop fittings and set up for the new trade. Deliveries of goods were arriving up to 4am, the newspapers got there only 5 minutes before the shop was due to open! Only the family had been involved in the change-over, no previous publicity or advertising had been done which bemused many of their previous customers who were coming in to browse through clothes and found newspapers and magazines instead!
