Rawnsley’s had a café on the left hand side of the shop as you entered the door. Lovely fresh baking.

Such a lovely photo and now Helen Stubbs I know the connection to your family, my gran always talked of the Herds and the Mercers and she lived at 141 High Street about 1989. So glad we made contact via Yeadon Memories and shared our lovely photos of our ancestors.

From our facebook page:
Helen Stubbs Goodness ! My grandmother Ada Mercer was apprenticed here in 1913 and once she had finished her apprenticeship there, set up her own bakers and confectioners at 131 High street. Not sure that went down well with Rawnsley’s but it did run until 1950.
It was called ‘the misses mercers’ ! It was run by Ada Mercer, her mum Sarah Mercer and her Aunt Martha Mercer.

Consolidated by Jack Brayshaw. 01 December 2021.
