An oil ploughing engine built by Walsh & Clarke of Guiseley.
The works site was on Bradford Road near White Cross the Victoria Engine Works, it is now a garage.
The company was begun in 1913 by Russell Clarke and Harry Walsh, they manufactured engines which ran on oil/paraffin rather than steam.
This engine only needed refueling once a week, it won a silver medal in the New Implement Section at the Royal Show in 1915.
Some of the specifications were 70hp at 320 RPM, engine 180 deg.opposed 2 cylinder, fuel oil or paraffin, 2 forward gears and 1 reverse, weight 6 tons.
By 1925 these engines were superseded by electric motors and the company ceased production.

Russell Clark and Harry Walsh began manufacturing oil engines at the Victoria Engine Works, White Cross in 1913, this was one of their oil powered ploughs.
They were pioneering the use of oil to replace steam but electric motors superseded their invention and the company failed in 1925.
The works premises was in the old Tram Shed at White Cross, which in subsequent years became the premises of G L Major & Co. Ltd, in the 1950s and later a garage and disco / nightclub.

My Grandfather, Harrison Halliday had an iron foundry which was in a building attached to Walsh And Clark’s works, he made the castings for the parts on the Victoria engine, there are three Working engines at the museum of East Anglian Life at Stowmarket, I had the pleasure of driving one at the museum, I have a video of it on you tube called Made in Guiseley.
