George’s service record still exists and gives further details. He attested on December 1st 1915 in Leeds when he was aged twenty-five and four months.
He lived at 7 Fern Bank Terrace and gave his occupation as “boot trade” and also as a boot and shoemaker. George was mobilised in September 1916 and later, living at 1 Ivy Bank, Kirk Lane, he and his wife Maggie Brown Roberts had a son Denis, who unfortunately died aged one month, not long after the mobilisation.
George was twenty-six when he died and is also commemorated at home on his parents’ (Alfred and Pollie) headstone in Yeadon Cemetery. (As an aside, George’s father died in 1961, aged 96).
