Comment | Benny Long was a local butcher. |
Benjamin Robinson Long was born in 1889, one of four children born to James and Martha Stella (Robinson).
At age eleven he was recorded at his Aunt Sarah Robinson’s house on the High Street – she was a butcher – and ten years later when twenty-one, was a butcher himself – own account (no employees and not working for anyone).
His family and Aunt Sarah were in Starkey’s Fold/Field. He married Nellie Denison (daughter of a butcher) in August 1912 and five years later, when living in Victoria Terrace, signed up and joined the Royal Army Service Corps.
He continued to work in the High Street and at his death in 1972 was living at Harrogate Road, Rawdon.
