Hird, John & Mary – 1907

Mary Louise Hird is the girl in the doorway of her father’s shop on Towngate.
The sign above the door reads “John Hird Plumber Glazier and General Ironmonger. Established 1880”
The shop windows are crammed with lamps, buckets, bowls, kettles, pans etc.
The doorway is festooned with brushes and a gas boiler is on the pavement.
John Hird has the look of a prosperous shopkeeper, puffing on his pipe with his thumbs tucked into his waistcoat!
