Comment | 13th July 1907: Jonathan Peate had donated the land for the park, the opening was a huge Civic and public event. A hot air balloon (marked Bradford) is above the crowd. A comment on the reverse states: ” A local mill owner took a trip in the basket and it landed near York”. Glass slide by E. E. Slater of Hopeville, Yeadon. Yeadon Park covers an area of 4 acres, the land was donated by Jonathan Peate, it adjoins Nunroyd Park which he had previously given to the people of Guiseley.
A vast crowd of people are listening to the speeches made by local worthies, Jonathan Peate is standing in front of the crowd just to the left of the tall tree. Yeadon council paid £1,000 to lay out the park, one of the events on opening day was a balloon ascent by Mr Bromhall of Bradford, his passenger was Walter Hall of Hall & Co.

Jonathan Peate had gifted land for the park in August 1903, it officially opened on July 13th 1907.
The Peate Shield which was donated by Jonathan was valued on July 19th 1996 by “Meade” of Leeds at £1, 955.
In contrast to the pride of possession seen in this image the pavilion has been subjected to the attention of vandals: May 1976 windows broken and the roof damaged so the windows were boarded up, 1989 a fire was started.
In 1996 a chain link fence was erected to 2 sides of the green, the following year this was altered to include a 3rd side.
