I remember this work starting, it must have been in about 1954 and they started at the Guiseley end, and it took quite a while to get to Yeadon. My husband was a baker at the time for a shop on The Green, and he used to take trays of baking in his motor bike and sidecar and knock on doors and also sell to the workmen. Can you imagine it no Health and Safety Health regulations then, but everything was very clean.
