I used to deliver coal on Tranmere, for the Guiseley and Yeadon coal Co., circa 1968.
We ran the wagons out of Menston Station, and the offices were on Oxford Circus Guiseley.
Syd Teal was the Weighbridge man and Yard Supervisor.
I did not last long, my first wage was £8 10s 6 d., which was less than I earned when I first left school at 16.

My parents used to live at the poor end of the park on Tranmere Drive from about 1970 to 1982. We had a stream in our back garden, it must have been Tranmere Beck.

I was born at what is now No:14 The Oval in 1931, so I remember the majority of the folk who lived in the houses shown. The Grimshaw’s in the one “end on”. The Naylor’s and the Leach`s in the semi next door (The Leach’s left and the Crankshaw’s moved in. Next door the sisters who had a dog named Bunch whose grave was in the border, Further us Mrs Whitecliffe lived and then the Renton’s.
Happy days from over 80 years ago.

My grandmother, Irene Butland, lived on the corner of The Oval and Bradford Road at 76 Bradford Road. She chose the site for her house in 1926/27 when it was built and my father, Robert aka Bob, was born there in 1929. She lived there until she moved to a flat in about 1978.
