George Armitage married Hannah Berry at the Parish Church in Batley on February 20th 1876, when he was twenty-two and Hannah was nineteen.
At the time George was a warehouseman, although in later life he became a Nurseryman and was an employer. One of his sons also became a nurseryman and ran Carlton Nursery.
They had ten children, although daughter Alice died at an early age.
The children on the photograph are, in chronological order of birth: Edith (1877), Nellie (1883), Albert (1884), Percy (1886), Maurice (1888), Elsie (1892), Louisa (1894), Annie (1898) and Dorothy (1901).
Six of the children were baptised together at Guiseley St. Oswald’s on January 9th, 1901.
