Mr Sample was Guiseley born and became a saddler with his premises on the corner of Bridge Street and Cattle Market Street, Otley, and was later demolished.
Here we see to the left Herbert Sample, centre Thomas Arthur (born 1875, died 1957 aged 81 and served in WW1) and on the right is James William Sample.

It is believed that before J W Sample’s store was demolished it was adjoined to what is now the Wharfe Fish & Chip Shop on Bridge Street/Cattle Market Street.
