Comment | Rev. Thomas Burditt M A., Pastor at the chapel 1875 – 1881 |
Thomas was born in Leicester in 1811, the son of William and Sarah Burditt. They had ten children, but Thomas became the most senior after the early deaths of two siblings. He married Anne Marie Fotherby in 1842 who, before her death in 1859, gave birth to seven offspring.
Thomas’s ministry has been well chronicled and what follows is a precis from McClintock’s “Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature.”
In 1836 he attended Stepney College to study for the ministry and in 1840 was in his first position at Long Sutton. Five years later Thomas had moved to Cambridge and in the 1850’s was in Wales (Haverford West and Tenby) where he was a college tutor and co-pastor. In 1871 he visited his sons in North America and decided to stay, living in Pine Grove, Nova Scotia. Before long he returned to Tenby and finally, in 1875, accepted the post at the Cragg Baptist Chapel, Rawdon.
