I remember so well Addy’s shops and the Addy Brothers. The mens was on the left and the ladies on the right.
I used to save up and buy my Mum and Dad’s Christmas presents from the shop. Behind the shop was Frank Sellers joinery workshop and undertakers they were our next door neighbours in Larkfield Avenue and I used to go there during the holidays with their daughter Patricia Sellers and can remember the wonderful smell of the wood shavings and all the noise of the machinery making the coffins! With Frank worked sons Keith Brian and Neil
before they all got married.

I remember the shop quite well. Gladys & Ronnie Addy ran it. They had two daughters with unusual names I cannot remember. Ron Addy was Best Man at my parent’s wedding in 1938.

I worked at Addy’s after leaving Benton Park in 1979 – what an experience it was Rawdons version of “Are you being Served”. Great experience, Ron & Edward Addy would load me up with stock in sports holdalls and send me on the bus to their shops in Bridlington, Guiseley, Ilkley, Otley, Brighouse, Ripon & Bridlington. Great memories & dont forget Mr. Ingle their right hand man in Rawdon.

My brother worked here for some years. I used to natter my mother to let me have some new clothes as the girls stuff was really ‘trendy’. Those were the days.
