Rugby Club 1912
Title Rugby Club (Tripehounds).
Date 1912
Location Yeadon

Comment See below …

This team were nick-named the “Tripehounds” and played in a field towards the top of Henshaw Lane.
A near riot ensued during and after a game with the rival team of Otley.
The team was suspended permanently by the Rugby Union for dirty play!
This photo was taken outside the Commercial Inn which stood at the junction of Henshaw and Harper Lanes.

The Tarn public house now stands on the site.

The man right at the back in the doorway was Joe Dibb, he went on to become a professional football player.

Editor’s Note: Back row, in suits, fourth from the right with the light coloured flat cap is my grandfather, Granville Brayshaw. He frequented the Commercial often during his youth it would appear. I have also heard that a few of the Wm. Brayshaw Son’s were involved in the ‘near riot’. Finally, and standing in the back row, second from the left wearing the hat and sporting a moustache, is George Herbert Teale, a well known person in Aireborough.

The photo was taken by J.A. Shadlock of Yeadon.
