Comment | In view are the gates to the cemetery on Cemetery Road. A council worker had been excavating a grave using a mini digger which had then been taken to be loaded onto a trailer, the hand brake on the truck towing the trailer failed, as the mini digger was being loaded onto the trailer it nudged the truck forward. Truck, trailer and mini digger rolled down the length of the cemetery drive, only coming to a halt when the truck collided with the cemetery gates dislodging one of the stone gateposts. Workmen took the mini digger off the trailer and placed it in front of the gatepost to prop it into position while the truck was reversed back up the drive. The mini digger was then used to push the gatepost back into position. The couple who live at the gatehouse, the lady being 9 months pregnant at that time, had only just returned to their home when the incident happened. The vehicles had missed colliding with their home by only 2 feet. Images Donated by Kelly Chadwick. |
