Comment | Maypole dancing in Town Hall Square, part of the Centenary Celebrations which began with a Victorian Market. At 3.30pm the Town Hall was officially reopened by Barney Colehan, television producer responsible for “The Good Old Days”, “It’s a Knockout” etc, in the evening local amateur societies presented “Songs From the Shows”. The following week had a full programme of entertainments by various groups and societies in the Town Hall. The then Aireborough and Horsforth Museum Society (now Aireborough Historical Society) had a Victorian exhibition to mark the occasion. To the right of the Town Hall is the former Primitive Methodist Chapel (now offices, September 2013) , the gap between the properties on the right is Devonshire Place, Kettley’s furniture shop can be seen on Ivegate.
