Mabel’s maiden name was Coupland and she was the daughter of Francis and his wife Mary.
She was baptised in Yeadon on October 17th 1897 after an August birth and her first address was on the High Street. Her father was an insurance agent and her mother a grocer.
Ten years later a thirteen-year-old Mabel was a baker’s errand girl, her father a woollen cloth percher (someone who checks cloth) and her mother a baker and confectioner at 61 High Street.
Mabel married Frank Herman Shuttleworth in 1922. (Frank was born in Bradford, joined up in 1916 when a horseman, became a gunner in the Royal Field Artillery then lived in Ivegate and 18 High Street in Yeadon.
He died in 1961). Mabel outlived her husband and died in Staincliffe in 1985.
