A Diesel engine on the line at the station before electrification took place in 1994/95. The station waiting rooms and ticket office were last improved in 2002. On the right is Abraham Moon’s Mill, the last textile mill working in the area.

A view from the signal box looking along the line, the original Midland Railway iron fottbridge is still in situ, it was replaced in May 1992, to allow for electrification of the line and given a new home on the Settle Carlisle line.

Guiseley Station, the Midland Railway footbridge was removed in May 1992 prior to the line being electrified in 1995.
The bridge was relocated to the Settle- Carlisle line and a new bridge erected over the Guiseley track.
The factory and chimney on the right is Abraham Moon’s mill.

The two photos were taken at or about the same time, almost certainly in the latter half of 1972. One of the posters is for the “West Riding” campaign which was launched in July 1972.
The timetable poster will not enlarge sufficient to be certain but I think it excludes Baildon which reopened on 5 January 1973.
The chap assisting the passengers is the train guard. Station staff were withdrawn in October 1968 – at least as regards passengers. They still handled parcels for a time. I don`t know exactly when this ended but it had gone by the time of these photos. The main building is disused, awaiting demolition which happened in 1974.
The timers on top of the gas lamps are a recent innovation. They were switched on manually when the station was staffed.
The signal box is now at Bolton Abbey and the footbridge at Kirkby Stephen.
The train is a class 108 Diesel Multiple Unit from either Leeds or Bradford F S to Ilkley. A similar two car set is now on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, except that it has two power cars with 600hp. The one photographed is a power car and trailer formation with only 300hp. They used to struggle with the gradients on the Ilkley line.
The line was under constant threat of closure from publication of the Beeching Report in March 1963 until Autumn 1972, when the immediate threat was lifted.

The picture is of The Skipton Skipper railtour which ran from Bristol to Ilkley to Bradford Forster Square then to Skipton and back to Bristol. The date is 14th November 1987. I was actually on the train from Cheltenham. If anyone wants to know the loco number it was 31463.
