Friends of Parkinson Park 2012

Title Friends of Parkinson Park
Date 2015
Location Guiseley
Photo ID FB069
Comment This photo was taken at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee picnic held in the park which is situated off Netherfield Road on land which was part of the Crompton Parkinson site. There is access to the park from Kelcliffe Lane, Greenshaw Terrace, Netherfield Crescent and Hillside Avenue. Frank and Albert Parkinson created the park in the 1930s as an amenity for their staff and for public use, it was well used. In 2002 the land was sold to St. Modwen Properties PLC by Brook Crompton’s of Huddersfield, the park was left untended and became rubbish strewn, overgrown and a venue for neer-do-wells. The Friends of Parkinson Park (FOPP) was formed in 2011 to combat the neglect and restore the park. Bellway Homes Developers who have built housing on the former factory site are supporting FOPP to maintain the park and keep it for public use. Photographer Joanne Coultas.
