Comment He was born on October 10th 1786 at Dunnace, Dumfries, Scotland, he came to Yorkshire to join his older brother John in 1802, making a living as a packman or traveling draper. His wife was Phoebe Briggs they were married in 1818. Robert prospered becoming a stuff merchant and banker, their home for over 30 years was Acacia, a substantial property in the Cragg Wood area of Rawdon. He became the first Mayor of Bradford in 1847, MP for Bradford 1851 – 1857 and was a JP. In his religious beliefs he was a non-conformist and a Liberal, he died in 1868. This drawing of Robert dates from 1855 and was/is the property of John Ulph, Victoria, Australia.
