Comment | This is the bottom of Old Howarth Lane, Yeadon. It is 1955 outside the door to the bakery of Greenholme Cafe, the front of which can be seen on picture ( SL044 The Green, behind the two men in the middle of the picture), but by this time it was only run as a bakers shop by Miss E. Firth, and the baker was Barrie Dean. It is the last house on Old Howarth Lane, going down before it meets Kirk Lane. The boys are Keith Mciness, John Luty, ? Firth. Miss Firth was a lovely kind lady and she was one of Yeadon’s characters, known by I would say everybody, and had a lovely turn of phrase known as old Yeadon. This portion of Old Howarth still exists and there is a working garage up on the right, and the land on the left was used to build a block of flats. Donated by Jean Dean. |
