Manor Mill was situated at the junction of Kirk Lane and Haworth Lane (formerly Manor Road), built in 1862 as a company mill.
In 1865 the first power looms were installed by E & T Bolton.
James Ives leased the company from 1865-1884, his company bought the mill outright in 1911.
The mill closed in 1980 and was demolished the following year.

Installation of a new boiler in the mill, part of the wall has been demolished to get the boiler inside the building.
A John Fowler (famous Leeds manufacturer of steam engines) tractor is manoeuvring the cumbersome boiler into position. This image is one of a series taken on glass slides by E E Slater, he showed them to the public at lantern slide shows.

The man in view was scouring cloth, one of the many processes carried out during the manufacture of cloth.
Scouring removed dirt, dust, grease etc from the cloth by immersion in hot water, often with an alkali, usually potash.

Brushing the cloth; the material is fed into the machine which brushes or raises the nap (surface fibres) of the material, it is delivered from the machine in neat folds.

Cloth is placed on an easel so it can be inspected for knots or faults, this process was called burling.

He was one of the mill managers and would have had ample opportunity to go round the mill taking photos.

I actually worked on those mules and carried slubbing up from the scribbling dept to the spinning dept before spinning it, luckily it wasn’t for long.
