| Comment | Two plaques awarded to Aireborough during the Second World War, previously kept at Micklefield House until the early 1990s, when the Council offices were renovated and became a “One-Stop-Shop” The plaque on the left has the heading: “Per Ardua Ad Astra” — “Through Adversity to the Stars” “War Savings Campaign 1943 Presented by the Air Ministry In Recognition of Successful Achievement in Wings For Victory Week” The plaques are made of hard plastic or Bakelite, the Military plaque on the right is headed: “For Freedom” and has an image of a soldier with a rifle. “War Savings Campaign 1944 Presented by the War Office In Recognition of Successful Achievement in Salute the Soldier Week” |

Trooper Cooper Leadbetter Gill
From Wharfedale Observer 75 Years Ago – 1943
Mr and Mrs C Leadbetter Gill, of Brooklands Crescent, Yeadon, have been notified that their youngest son, Trooper Cooper Leadbetter Gill, a wireless operator in the Tank Corps, has been killed in action in Sicily. He was 20 years of age.

Three Medals with ribbons which were awarded to Horace Ashworth of Yeadon (married to Olive Harrison, aunt of Carlo Harrison). On the left is the 1939-1945 War Medal, in the centre the France and Germany Star, on the right a Defence Medal.
