Hopeville – 1920
A Methodist Circuit garden party held in the grounds of Hopeville House. The immediate post WW1 period brought a change in ladies’ fashions as seen here, shorter skirts and smaller hats very different to the elaborate Edwardian gowns and millinery women had worn in the pre-war period.
Hopeville – 1922
Children dressed in their new Whitsuntide clothes out for a walk, probably with a Chapel group having left Hopeville House. The location is the bottom of the High Street, behind them is the Steep (Town Street) and to the right is Silver Lane.
This photograph was originally taken onto a glass slide by E. E. Slater of Hopeville, Yeadon. It has been digitally transferred for us by John Hobson.

We used to help Dad with the garden when we were little. Our house was built in the grounds of Hopeville House. We used to find old coins and bits of fancy crockery. I wish we had kept them.
