Comment Bunting is stretched across King Street to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI on the 12th May 1937.

George VI, ascended the throne when his brother Edward VIII, abdicated in order to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson, Edward took the title Duke of Windsor. King George VI died on 6th February 1952 to be succeeded by His daughter Elizabeth, our present Queen.
This view is looking down King Street from the High Street, the lady on the left standing at her gate is Mrs Ada Waterworth nee Fletcher.
The postman is looking at the camera, in the background are several ladies.

These houses are at the Football end of King Street, the view looks towards the High Street. The houses were built on the site of the old Theatre Royal or Peoples Theatre, known locally as “The Peeps”.

New properties on King Street which are on the site of the Peoples Hall (Peeps), the name was changed in 1892 to the Theatre Royal. The balcony became unsafe and it was closed in 1915, the ground floor was used as a Drill Hall for the remainder of the First World War.
It was also used as an indoor market until being pulled down in 1957. Part of the Hall footprint extended into Football at the junction with King Street where a detached house was built.
