Comment | The old signage (just visible) shows it was the Post Office, in 2015 this had been an empty shop for over 5 years, now a private house (2021). On the apex front is a carved shield “Erected AD 1897 JL”. Photographer John Arundel. |

Picture two shows the “Oddfellows”and at the right hand side there is part of a stone wall remaining. This is the remains of the house where my Grandparents lived and the house where I was born in 1926.

I found the comments by “Teleg” interesting as I have known of the “Oddfellows” all my life through Yorkshire parents who migrated to Australia.
The story I was told is that William Saxton (my father’s father) had been a proprietor of the Inn possibly around the 1920’s.
Actually one of my father’s army documents show the Inn as his address, I understand they were a very large family of children, my father was in the younger group.
It would have been fascinating to know if Teleg’s Grandparents had had any association with them, I realise there is no way of knowing now.
I do find all the photos of the area fascinating.

In the second photo you can see a pile of stones at the far end of the Oddfellows and almost behind the car. These are all that remain of my Grandparents house, where I was Born in February 1926.

The old post office has had a new front, and is a dwelling house, the post box has been moved lower down and you would never know that a post office ever existed.
