Comment | In the mid 1960s the library service was operated from a room in Yeadon Town Hall, Aireborough Librarian Brian Shackleton reported to Aireborough Urban District Council that this service was inadequate. The Council approved plans for a new library to be built on the site of Hudson’s Yard (the site of Haworth Court ), unfortunately the County Planning Officer would not pass the plans. An alternative site on Starkey’s Fold was suggested but this too was abandoned. In 1967 the former Co-operative Society building on Town Hall Square was approved for conversion into a library which opened on 20th June 1968, as seen here. |
