Comment I am going to take a detour from the usual posting and see if we can help Paul in his long search for his Dad. I think little scraps of information at this stage will be very useful to him so, if you can help just contact AHS.

“I am searching for my father Peter Bennett who will now be aged in his mid 70’s. He wasn’t from Aireborough but he did spend a lot of time in the Yeadon and Guiseley area in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, when he was courting my mother Pauline Todd and they would go out socialising together locally.

He was associated with aeroplanes, perhaps a flying school, flying light aircraft out of Yeadon Airport (now Leeds Bradford) and also RAF Church Fenton, where I believe he was possibly a flight engineer in the RAF at one point. I also believe that he could have been associated with Croydon or one of the other southern airports hosting a flying school and light aircraft.

My mother worked in the NAAFI at Church Fenton and also the café/NAAFI at Yeadon Airport, which is where I believe she met my father sometime in 1958 or 1959. My mother and father never married and the last time anyone from my family ever saw my father was around Christmas 1962 when he disappeared without trace.

I have been searching for him for some time and have followed many avenues, including all the obvious ones, but sadly without success. The main problem is that I only have limited information about him and as my mother and older family members have now passed away, the only real thing I have to go on is his name and a few pictures that I have of him.

I would be very grateful if anyone does have any information, no matter how trivial and especially if you remember meeting him.

Thank you, Paul Bennett-Todd.”
