Fred & Mabel Harrison – Undated
Mabel was born in 1916, the daughter of Edward Marshman, the family lived on Miry Lane in a cottage which was rented from Eddie Denison of Westfield Mill.
She attended South View School until 1930 when she left aged 14.
For the next few years she had a succession of jobs in local mills and factories which she hated, loathing the dirt and noise until 1939 when WWII began.
By then Mabel had married and found what was for her a dream job working in the Silver Library which she did for 6 years.
She was a talented writer and produced several volumes of dialect poetry:
A Yorkshire Summer
When Buzzers Blew
Spring Cam’ t Clattergate
Local history was another interest and she contributed articles which were published in a series of books edited by Martin Rigg:
An Aireborough Selection
Round and About Aireborough Volume 111
Carlo Harrison is her nephew, she is seen here standing by the Long Stoop.
