Comment On a visit to Leeds during Her Silver Jubilee Year, the Queen is attending an evening reception in Leeds Civic Hall. The man with his back to the camera is Lord Mayor William Hudson. He was born in Yeadon on 28th February 1907, he left school at 13 and worked with his father who had a joinery and undertaking business on Chapel Lane. Aged 17 he began his own business as a butcher with his brother Sam in the High Street which lasted until 1970. Mr Hudson became a Councillor for Aireborough in 1947, then from 1974 a Leeds Councillor (after Aireborough became part of the Leeds Metropolitan area), he became Lord Mayor for the period 1977/78. He was also a JP, at various times President of Yeadon Amateur Operatic Society, Aireborough Gilbert and Sullivan Society and the Rotary Club, he retired as a Councillor in May 1988.
