In 1906 representatives from Yeadon, Guiseley, Rawdon and Menston Councils met to discuss the building of a secondary school to serve the district.
The public roads in Yorkshire consisted of narrow lanes called pack-horse roads.
The Priory was sheltered to the north by Esholt Woods and Hollings Hill, which in those days was covered with holly trees and evergreens.
We don’t know how long ago it was, when the forests that covered most of Yorkshire, a settlement was formed upon the hill, that is now Yeadon.
At the top right hand corner of Moor Lane was Winterburns quarry, this was by far the largest of all the quarries, a play ground and adventure land for all of us kids.
Prior to buying Low Mill, William Machell was a local scrap dealer with a small yard on the end of Saxon Buildings and Well lane near the Old Dog mill in Yeadon.
Recently I have been researching the life of my Great Grandfather, Philemon Slater, and it might be of interest if I relate an odd story about a family heirloom.
We missed the 1933 one, but boy did we have some snow in 1947.
