Harry Ramsden celebrated the 21st anniversary of his business by selling fish and chips at 1912 prices -1 1/2d (one and a halfpennies) for a portion of fish and chips.

Part of a crowd of 30,000 who queued to buy fish and chips, an offer to celebrate the 21st birthday of the White Cross business. Advertising boasted ” We have put the clock back to 1912″, selling fish at 1d a portion and chips for a half penny.
Harry Corbett helped entertain the crowd, bands played until late in the evening when the day ended with a firework display.

Vast crowds which were estimated to reach 10,000 thronged to Harry Ramsdens restaurant and fish shop at White Cross, to celebrate his 25 years in business he reduced the price of fish and chips to one and a half pennies (less than 1p), 1912 price.

I remember the 1952 occasion as clearly as if it was yesterday. It was the month I left school after the GCE exams. Its no exaggeration to say that the famous queue reached at least the Hare and Hounds!!
