Comment | c1910 – L Myers’ premises on the High Street, he was a painter and decorator, paperhanger and contractor. This wooden unit had previously been a tripe shop then a cobblers. Gregg’s bakery is now on this site, to the right is a shop run by Ezra Marshall. /td> |
High Street – 1920s
In the centre of this view is the Co-operative stores facing Town Hall square, moving right are the Central Stores (until recently a dry cleaners, September 2012), then Frankland’s and on the right edge R Parker, newsagent.
Above Parker’s is the Albion Printing Works.

A procession, possibly Yeadon Carnival coming down the High Street headed by a Brass Band.
On the left is a shop owned by John Crockatt, standing in front of the shop are ladies wearing the then fashionable cloche hats.

On the left are the offices of Yeadon Waterworks, the entrance to the right led to Starkey’s Fold.
Next, Ben Brown’s greengrocers shop decorated for the Carnival.
Above the shop is the Textile Hall, these premises were formerly the Liberal Club. People are gathering to watch the Carnival procession.

I remember this well as I had just started work at Billy Murg’s after the war and tried to cycle to work from the top of Henshaw Lane, but had to push the bike all the way as the snow was too deep.
