Yeadon Dam – 1970s

A sunny day being enjoyed around the waters of the Tarn. Two boys in swimming trunks are venturing into the lake watched by a fisherman. The fisherman nearest is identified as Geoff Smith and the one furthest away in the brown top is Derek Oxley both Yeadon lads.

Photo taken one November, the old building has been renovated and is the boathouse for the Leeds & Bradford Model Boat Club (2017).

Editor’s Note: I have not been round Yeadon Dam since 1969, and it is such a shame to see one of the number of old buildings used for people to rest in, in such disrepair and or have disappeared all together. I spent many an hour fishing by the side of these buildings in the late 50s and early 60s. Jack Brayshaw. 16 July 2021.

A capsized craft on the Tarn (Dam), the occupant is attempting to get it upright.

A comment from Howard Chadwick who kindly donated this image to us:
“To be picky the boat is not capsized until the mast hits the water and it is more than likely that this young lady who is an accomplished sailor actually saved this apparently terminal incident.”

The following two photographs were taken by the late Mr Fred Scarr who lived in Moortown, Leeds. On the swings are the late Mrs Marjorie (Meg) Scarr and her grandson Tony Warner aged about 5.
On the second, they are enjoying views of their surroundings.

Photograph donated by Janet Maude, daughter of Mr and Mrs Scarr and mother of Tony.
